Bike Riding Journal

This afternoon I wanted to bike Wood Canyon again but this time turn back so that I could stay in the canyon.

I biked up a short, fairly easy trail called Alwut Trail. The summit is incredible! There's a bench and terrific views of the canyon.

Cool view and the weather was perfect.

On the way back I biked through Coyote Run Trail. It runs parallel to Wood Canyon Trail and biking it feels like an amusement park ride; lots of sudden turns and drops.

It was a beautiful morning. I biked about 8.5 miles.

Today I rode the Wood Canyon Trail. It connects to Canyon View Park, which is near the entrance to the Westridge Trail. I had to walk my bike up Canyon Vistas to Pacific Park. After that it's downhill.

One of the bridges on the trail. I love how it's like riding in a forest. You forget where you are.

I rode my bike early this morning. I left my apartment around 7:45am and it was very foggy outside. I biked to Aliso & Wood Canyon Park. Instead of going straight on the paved path, I turned left across the creek so that I was on the unpaved path left of the creek. This trail dead ends at the water treatment plant. It was so foggy that the moisture in the air was covering my sunglasses and it was hard to see.

This is the path near the start once you cross a little concrete bridge.

I felt like I was biking in a dream.

This is where the path dead ends. The water treatment plant is behind an ominous looking chainlink fence.

I wanted to get an earlier start so I left the apartment about 8:30am. I wanted to find a way to get to Laguna Beach that wasn't terribly difficult.

The weather was perfect! It was early enough in the morning that some mist hung in the air.

I wanted to hike up a trail called "Mentally Sensitive". It leads to Laguna Beach. It was too steep to hike with my bike so I had to turn back.

The view up on the trail is spectacular!

I wanted to try something new today so I looked on Google maps and noticed that I could take an alternate route to the Aliso & Wood Canyon Park. First I rode past the empty building that I like visiting on Aliso Viejo Parkway.

I still find it hard to believe that his is empty.

I love that view of Saddleback!

I biked up Wood Canyon Drive to Oak View Drive. There's an entrance to the park but you can only access it through a gated residential community. I waited at the gate and was almost not going to follow behind a car, but then I noticed another car was waiting to slip in as well, so I thought, fuck it, I'll do it too.
I biked down a hill the entrance is a small gate. Past that you go down a little hill that leads to this dirt road. It's bullshit that only rich people can access this entrance.

It's bucolic in this canyon! I felt like I was in a Western film.

I usually ride my bike at night but this morning I decided to ride early.

This is an empty office building on Aliso Viejo Parkway. I put my phone against the glass front door and took a picture.

The building looks out to this spectacular view. It's peaceful here.

This is a building off of Enterprise. I found a path from the parking lot that leads to one of the entrances. I love the landscape and how the sun creates cool shadows in the morning.
