Real Teriyaki Sauce
This is way better than the store bought stuff. You can put it on anything. If you use it on chicken, grill the chicken first with some sea salt and then put the teriyaki sauce on after. You never want to marinate with teriyaki sauce because it will burn and taste bad.
1/2 cup low sodium soy sauce
1/2 cup sake (I prefer light)
1/2 cup mirin
1/3 cup to 1/2 cup sugar
a few white parts of green onions
1 tsp cornstarch
1/2 tsp garlic powder (or a few cloves of fresh garlic)
1/8 tsp sesame oil
Cook everything over medium low heat for 20-30 minutes until reduced to a consistency that can coat a spoon.
